I'M KAYLA FITZGERALD

REGISTERED DIETITIAN FOR RUNNERS
CERTIFIED INTUITIVE EATING COUNSELOR
RACE DIRECTOR AT PALMETTO ULTRAS

My name is Kayla and I'm a Registered Dietitian, Ultrarunner and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor based in Charleston, South Carolina. As a runner, I used to think that eating less and seeing the number on the scale go down meant that I was healthy and fit but the truth was I never really felt strong or fast and I was just chasing that number on the scale. After several years of school and a year long Dietetic Internship at the Medical University of South Carolina, I learned the science behind why that doesn't work. But just because I knew the science, that didn't mean my mindset had changed. This led me to take a deep dive into Intuitive Eating and eventually becoming a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor. Now, using both nutrition science and principles of behavior change I am fueling my body properly (like the badass runner I am) and I'm faster and stronger than I've ever been and I can help you have the same freedom and feel your best. This is what lead to the founding of Endurance Nutrition-- I want to help active people like you feel confident in the way you fuel your body on race day and every day without obsessing over the number on the scale.

WORK WITH ME

Trying to be "perfect" or follow a plan that someone else has had success with often leads to frustration when you get "off track" or don't get the same results. Your health is very individualized and we'll work together to find a place where feeling good also feels easy. Working with me will provide you with a level of personalization that no app or cookie cutter meal plan can provide.

1

You'll learn to listen to your body's hunger and fullness signals and feel confident in the way you're fueling yourself as a runner

2

We'll ensure that you are eating balanced and satisfying meals that not only support your daily life and training but also help you perform your best on race or competition days.

3

I will take the guesswork out of fueling for your sport by building you a customized fueling plan. You'll do a trial run, we'll make any necessary adjustments and you'll have a detailed plan of exactly what you need to do on race/competition day

Whether you're training for a 100k or you're just walking around your neighborhood for extra exercise, I can help equip you with the tools for your specific health success. You don't have to be a world-class athlete. You just have to be willing to put in the work and put yourself first. And I'll do the same.

WHAT CLIENTS SAY

LAEL M.

I started working with Kayla a few months before participating in a 24 hour race that she was directing. I participated in Group Nutrition Coaching and I can’t recommend her services and expertise enough. My race goal was to run 100 miles in that time. I’d done that before but it was many years prior so I was very nervous to attempt it again. I also found myself dreading the upcoming training cycle, fearing that the fatigue and recovery of training would negatively impact my day to day. Through her self guided course and also the groups calls, I’d never felt more supported or prepared for a race. I was so proud to hit my goal and it was extra special to have her at the finish line! The two biggest things that were game changers due to working with Kayla was how good I felt throughout training and how enjoyable race day was. In training, I could have big mileage days and still have energy to enjoy the other areas of my life. And I never cursed the course once on race day bc I had a plan and energy throughout the race which made the day so fun! When my stomach turned 85 miles in I didn’t panic and was able to slow down but keep moving until I pulled through it having practiced trouble shooting throughout training! I can’t wait to work with Kayla again in order to hit my next big goal!

Kayla's approach is different than anything I've ever experienced. In just four short appointments (with some light reading in between), I began to shift my mindset to one of body acceptance, appreciation for food (especially the ones I like), and an overall calm that food and weight no longer had a stronghold on my life.  I will take what I have learned and continue down a healthier, more gentler path.

Kayla is amazing; she is worth every penny and more. She's an ultra runner in addition to an amazing dietitian so she "gets it." I felt like the fueling piece of the puzzle was the piece I was missing. My training was on point, I felt great running...I just couldn't get that nutrition piece nailed down. I would get sick during races, bonk, and feel like poo the rest of the day and beyond. Wow. She was a life saver. She simplified it for me, she gave me some fantastic and easy to follow suggestions, her race plan was on point. Now that I know what I'm doing, I have taken my running to the next level. I don't feel sick. I haven't bonked. And I am not exhausted the rest of the day after my long run. Thank you Kayla!!

Her insight on intuitive eating helped me tremendously and I realized many things about my eating habits that I was able to address and shift. She also helped me with fueling for races and my first sprint triathlon. I always experienced GI issues while running races and she gave me a detailed plan and suggestions and I haven't had ANY GI issues since! I highly recommend working with Kayla if you're looking for a new outlook on your eating habits. I especially recommend her for helping to build a fueling plan for any races you may have.
